The words ‘Transit Van’ instantly conjure up images of a work-horse, built for longevity that runs and runs. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter has long been known as a reliable work-horse. There are two powertrain options available on the Sprinter; a four-wheel drive 188bhp 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 with a five-speed automatic gearbox or or a 161bhp 2.1-litre turbo-dieselmated to a seven-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. There is a choice of body styles and the cargo room can take up to 12 seats to haul people, or can come empty to haul cargo. With hi-tech features like crosswind stabilisation and collision prevention, safety is paramount.
Volkswagen has for many years been synonymous with reliability. Available with a 2.0-litre diesel-turbo engine, the Transporter comes with a choice of five power outlets. The front-wheel drive options deliver 83bhp, 100bhp or 112bhp have a five-speed manual gearbox. The higher-powered models with 138bhp and 176bhp come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.
